About this deal

I would use this in my classroom at the beginning of the year to address classroom rules and what is expected of the students for behavior.

They decide that the best way to stick together and overcome their fear is to all make up a rhyme to help them battle the darkness together, and soon they were all fast asleep. It was a fun addition at the end when Clark met a new student and showed him the ways of "staying cool". Once Clark realized that rhymes might help him remember the rules for school, "Maybe if I make a rhyme, I will remember every time. Many children find that having fears is a sign of weakness and is frowned upon, when truly all children have them.

I liked the book, and the message was excellent as it taught kids that being happy is not a bad thing just keeping it cool is the way you have to do it.

Again the book prompts conversations about litter, keeping the planet clean, and the impact our rubbish can have on our oceans if we don’t dispose of it properly. These fun little sayings could be used to teach students about rhyming and help them come up with their own rhymes! Clark the Shark Afraid of the Dark," by Bruce Hale is a precious story about a shark who is nervous to have is first slumber party because he does not want his friends to know that he is afraid of the dark.An eco-minded Redbridge school student who published a book about a friendly litter clearing shark is hoping his story will inspire people to start the New Year by joining green initiatives in the borough. Henry aged 9, is now encouraging people to start the New Year with a pledge to protect the environment including getting involved in local initiatives from community litter picks to reducing the use of single use plastic, to create a cleaner and greener Redbridge. I would recommend this book to young readers because it shows that everyone has fears, but with the help of loved ones, they are able to be conquered. It has a very entertaining plot, but also teaches some great lessons in rhyming, word play, and manners. I will look forward to reading it to young folks in my life - especially those who are fans of creatures that are a bit more scary than fluffy bunnies or teddy bears.

I like that children can relate to Clark and his friends and I would love to read the other books in the series. We use the CookieConsent cookie to record that you have seen the cookie notification banner so we don't need to show it to you again. This book is a wonderful way to spark children's curiosity and love for nature while also promoting important values like kindness, empathy, and environmental stewardship. What I did not like about this book, however, was the weird slant rhyme that played such a large roll in the book. We use Facebook, YouTube, Vimeo and Twitter to display / embed relevant feeds on various pages throughout the site. When Clark the Shark discovers that rhymes help him "Stay cool", he gives many examples like "When teacher's talking, don't go walking" and "Only munch your own lunch". In this empowering tale about conquering nighttime fears, Clark the Shark learns how friendship can help light the way through the dark.
