About this deal

These binoculars can be used in inclement weather too being both waterproof and fogproof so observers can move from hot and cold climes (like in and out of vehicles and houses) without the need to wait for the glass to warm or cool. That said, the Prostaff 7s has one extra feature that makes it superior to 3s model. The prisms on the 7s are reinforced with phase correction coatings that further enhance resolution. The Prostaff 3s series is a bit lighter and compact than the 7s counterparts which make the Prostaff 3s easy to carry. Internal reflection is more prominent in the 3s’s series binoculars which has a noticeable hazying affect on the image quality presented to the eyes.

When we tested the binoculars using indoor lighting, the 3s showed strong neutral-bluish reflections. By contrast, the 7s showed only faint purple or green reflections. This means that Prostaff 7s performs well all-round; whether it’s daytime, night time or in dim light. Carrying both the Prostaff 3s model 10X42 and 7s 10X42 model binoculars side by side, to the bitterly cold outdoors, Neither fogged up a bit going from the warmth of my home.

Both barrels are O-ring sealed and nitrogen purged so they’re deemed both fog-proof and waterproof. On the right barrel, the diopter will allow you to easily adjust the eyecups and twist them up if you want to use the binoculars with or without glasses. Focus Wheel If you use both pairs during the day, you will see a noticeable difference. Obviously, internal reflections wash out the image in the Prostaff 3s model more.

Outdoor activities like birdwatching and hunting can be daunting, specifically for beginners. These activities can be expensive to get into, not to mention there is quite a steep learning curve involved. That’s where these Prostaff 3S come in handy. PROSTAFFs are not as expensive as the Monarch 5 or Monarch 7, but neither do they have the same sharpness. With the lightweight construction of the CL Companion binoculars and the impeccable build quality, you can be sure your investment will withstand the test of time, which is what you would expect as these are far from cheap. But I say you get what you pay for and the optical quality of these binoculars is possibly the best on the market. As expected from a Nikon product, the image quality of these binoculars doesn't disappoint. But that's because the lenses are designed for top-notch performance in a range of circumstances. For instance, the multilayer lens coating provides maximum light transmittance, which illuminates even the brightest scenes. This, in combination with the silver-alloy mirror coating, ensures a clear view every time. Tip: The more layers of coatings the lenses have the better and if roof prisms binoculars are phase correction coated, the better the optical performance. Below I go over in-depth, the differences in the physical characteristics as well as the all-important optical performance differences that you will get between similar quality 8x42 and 10x42 binoculars. Also, Chromatic Aberration is present in all the models mostly at the center, but it is somewhat to a lesser degree in the 7s series.

Comparing among the 10×42 and 8×42 of the Prostaff series, I observed more shaking effect in the 10X models, however, that can be neglected. Nitrogen filling prevents fogging while the design is slim and simple. An extendable eye relief provides comfort for spectacle wearers, as do a dioptric adjustment ring, flip-down lens cap, and a new strap mount. A 15-year warranty provides extra peace of mind. I went to Cabala's yesterday and was able to test the Prostaff 5 10x50. I understand the difference between roof prism and porro prisms so I get this is a entirely different design. Roof's tend to be more expensive because they're more complex but even for the size of 10x50 these felt like a feather in my hand. They're 3/4ths of a pound less than the AEs.

Whilst not always the case and it varies between brands, 10x42 binoculars can be a little more expensive than the equivalent 8x42 model from the same brand in the same series.
