About this deal

The very bright, white planet Jupiter will be well-placed for observing through most of the night during November. The gas giant will be sliding westward across the stars of southern Aries — followed by Uranus, which will be positioned a dozen degrees to Jupiter's east. Overnight on Nov. 2 in the Americas, Jupiter will reach opposition for 2023. The star Algol in the constellation of Perseus represents the glowing eye of Medusa from Greek mythology. Also designated Beta Persei, it is among the most accessible variable stars for skywatchers. (Image credit: Chris Vaughan/Starry Night) On Saturday evening, Nov. 18, the terminator boundary between the moon's lit and dark hemispheres will fall just to the left of a trio of large craters named Theophilus, Cyrillus, and Catharina that curve along the western edge of gray Mare Nectaris. On Monday, Nov. 13 Uranus will reach opposition — the night of the year when it is closest to Earth at a distance of 1.74 billion miles, 2.78 billion km, or 155 light-minutes. (Image credit: Chris Vaughan/Starry Night) You will need to set up your phone's Bluetooth before you begin, but this is a seamless experience, with the device being up and running within moments. Despite its compact size and unassuming appearance, this USB-powered projector is powerful for transforming any room into a celestial-like wonderland. When connected to a USB power source, it projects hundreds of laser stars in a single color, creating a truly immersive and atmospheric experience. Whether you're a gamer looking to enhance your gaming environment, a parent looking to create a magical bedtime routine for your child (ensure they can't look directly into the beam), or simply someone who appreciates the beauty of the cosmos, this star projector will surely delight. Since Earth will be positioned between the sun and the planet on that date, Jupiter will rise at sunset, remain visible all night long, and set at sunrise. At opposition, Jupiter will approach 370.2 million miles, 595.8 million km, or 33.1 light-minutes from Earth, and it will shine at its maximum brightness for 2023 of magnitude -2.91.

Like the Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Projector, you won't get scientific accuracy, but you'll get a fantastic 'insomnia-busting' experience that allows your children (or yourself) to sleep better at night. National Geographic Astro Planetarium would make a nice space gift for a budding astronomer. It has great functionality, with a time and date selector and a built-in speaker.★★★★½ Bresser Junior Astro-Planetarium DeluxeThis Bresser planetarium star projector, designed for kids, has true-to-life projections, a five-year warranty and is simple to operate. It has a time and date selector, a shooting star function and a sleep timer, and it ships with two disks.★★★½ Control is simple, using three buttons — power, rotation and sleep timer — and it is powered by a battery which you can charge with a USB-C cable. You're not tied to a power source like with the Homestar Flux, and you don't have to keep changing the batteries as you do with the National Geographic model—again — another happy medium. Aurora Borealis Northern Lights Star ProjectorIt's highly customizable, the patterns are realistic and the music rhythm mode is impressive. This is one of our favorites. ★★★★½

On November evenings, the Andromeda Galaxy is positioned very high in the eastern sky. (Image credit: Chris Vaughan/Starry Night) During November the creamy-yellow dot of Saturn will first appear in the lower part of the southern sky after dusk. The U.S Food and Drug Administration (FDA) states that ' The FDA recognizes four major hazard classes (I to IV) of lasers, including three subclasses (IIa, IIIa, and IIIb). The higher the class, the more powerful the laser is and the greater the potential to pose serious injury if used improperly. ' Astronaut Starry Sky Star Projector:A well-made novelty star projector that every kid, or space fan, will love to have in their bedroom. It isn't quite on par with other star projectors performance-wise, but it does everything we'd expect of it, given its reasonable price. ★★★★

Rotating the image and adjusting the focus wheel in the dark is simple thanks to the blue-illuminated buttons. The result is a bright and sharp projection on the ceiling (the optics are from the German optics brand Bresser, which makes binoculars, telescopes, and microscopes). However, stars at the edge of the projection can seem blurry. One novel feature is an optional 'falling star' mode, which projects a flashing meteor every 40 seconds, though always in the same place. During our Aurora Borealis Northern Lights Star Projector review, we were impressed with the musical rhythm mode. It does a great job of altering the lighting display to match the 'feel' of the music, and the sensitivity of the microphone can be adjusted for a more or less powerful light display, making it perfect for parties. During our Atmosphere Smart Galaxy Projector review, we were impressed by its sleek design that's sure to delight many: it's modern and compact, allowing the user to place it anywhere in the household without ruining the aesthetic. The unit can be adjusted to four angles, making it flexible enough to project from your selected surface onto the wall or ceiling. On Wednesday evening, Nov. 29, sky-watchers east of the Mountain Time zone will have a special treat as the shadow of Io leads the Great Red Spot across Jupiter. (Image credit: Chris Vaughan/Starry Night) The same Astro Planetarium Multimedia disks are included — one featuring a starry night sky and the other featuring overlays of constellations, and it's all entirely accurate for the time and day you're using it.

Visual Magnitude: This is the astronomer's scale for measuring the brightness of objects in the sky. The dimmest object visible in the night sky under perfectly dark conditions is about magnitude 6.5. Brighter stars are magnitude 2 or 1. The brightest objects get negative numbers. Venus can be as bright as magnitude minus 4.9. The full moon is minus 12.7 and the sun is minus 26.8.Only the brightest stars are visible to our unaided eyes on moonlit-flooded nights. In the western sky on Tuesday evening, Nov. 28, the very bright star Vega in the constellation of Lyra the Harp will be descending the western sky. At magnitude 0.0, it's the 5th brightest star in the entire sky (not counting our sun).

Over a week starting on Sunday evening, Nov. 19, the waxing moon will visit four planets in succession — Saturn, Neptune, Jupiter, and Uranus. (Image credit: Chris Vaughan/Starry Night) Pococo Galaxy Star ProjectorIt does what it is supposed to — it projects high-quality imagery onto any surface to immerse you in the wonders of what the universe has to offer, maintaining a static picture or slowly rotating image.★★★★ Ever wondered how to make a star projector? Sold as the 4M Night Sky Projection Kit, (or in the U.K. as the Science Museum Create A Night Sky) this cardboard cut-out might not seem at first to be a worthy addition to our list of the best star projectors. After all, what's on offer here is merely some tiny holes in cardboard positioned over a lamp. The resulting image is pretty basic, of course, but how you get there is the clever part. Encalife Ambience Galaxy & Star Projector:A neat combination of a star projector and Bluetooth speaker built into one. It isn't scientifically accurate but it displays vivid nebula-inspired patterns to enhance the ambience in any room. ★★★½There are 30 additional discs available when you visit Astrial, Sega Toys' official online store. Simulations of the aurora borealis and the aurora australis are perhaps the highlights. There is a disc that displays the planets of the solar system as well, but it is the ones that show galaxies, nebulas and other NASA-based imagery that really stand out. For example, the North America nebula as taken by NASA's Spitzer Space Telescope and the weird seven-star system called Jabbah (officially called Nu Scorpii and IC 4592) as imaged by NASA's WISE mission. You can also buy disks that simulate fireworks, 'night jellyfish' and a hot-air balloon festival. It serves no other purpose or provides any scientific accuracy. Still, it is a discrete, affordable, high-quality device that puts out visually stunning lasers to transform your surroundings while drawing very little energy. Io's shadow will rotate into view at 5:41 p.m. EST (or 10:41 GMT). Then the Great Red Spot will appear by about 7 p.m. EST (or 00:00 GMT on Nov. 30) and begin to follow Io's shadow. Io's bright dot will break free of Jupiter at 7:11 p.m. EST (or 00:11 GMT). Io's shadow will complete its passage at 7:50 p.m. (or 00:50 GMT), leaving the spot to cross alone until about 10:40 p.m. EST (or 03:40 GMT).
