About this deal

The book has some super creepy moments in it as Kyle and Dan visit the homes that the cult lived in over the years they were operating. There are some bone-chilling and edge of your seat scary tense moments that were just fantastic. Especially the scene where Kyle & Dan return to the first house that the cult lived in after dark to get some extra footage at night after interviewing one of the former cult members there earlier in the day. I have been ill-used, Mr Solomon. Ill-used. Investors have one thing on their minds: profit at any cost.'

Y como nexo común tenemos a ese misterioso apartamento 16 que trae por la calle de la amargura a todos los vecinos. I love Adam Nevill's work and will happily read everything he publishes. I feel like I'm guaranteed a well-structured, creepy and unsettling tale replete with people I can relate to. And I'm a simple man, it's all I ask for. I recommend Last Days highly, as I did Apartment 16 and The Ritual before it. Perfect for readers who like to be unsettled rather than grossed out. Nine of these people were dead, including Sister Katherine. Six were found alive. Of the living, five were children. The infamous Manuel Gomez, aka Brother Belial, was the sixth. Katherine's favourite and her executioner. And Brother Belial was the only adult survivor of that night. I'm sure you've heard of him? He was killed in the recreation room of the Florence penitentiary before he could stand trial. By inmates unknown. It is this aspect of the cult that has fascinated its biographers, its fans, its exploiters. The criminal case. The police believe the murders occurred as a result of infighting, and drug psychosis, or some manner of suicide pact. The newspapers at the time called it a satanic ritual involving human sacrifice, including the sacrifice of its leader. Who, by the way, was actually beheaded. And that version of events is the one that has endured, as you might say, in the "mainstream" public imagination. So what else does one need to explore as a film-maker or biographer? It's a perfectly lurid story that has enough of everything. Here we go. 'We all want the truth, Max. I just tried to understand what happened. There's no way I will ever know what really happened up there. I don't think anyone ever will. But I got an authentic sense of the place the story came out of. People suggested things, without much prompting. I never tried to steer the interviews, or to emboss a theory on anything. My mind and my lens were wide open. The viewer is the interpreter. These days everyone wants a say. The world is a hanging jury. I give the audience the known facts and the fallible testimony of the interviewees. And to be honest, I had no idea what that film was going to suggest to me as I made it.' locusmag (20 January 2020). "2019 Stoker Awards Preliminary Ballot". Locus Online . Retrieved 28 July 2020.

locusmag (20 February 2020). "2019 in Review: From Haunted Landscape to Hollywood Costume by John Langan". Locus Online . Retrieved 28 July 2020.Lastly, I must just mention the language. I am not averse to some swearing, especially when used well, but the constant repetition of a certain swear word had me cringing. It came across like a kid in a schoolyard trying to sound adult, rather than as an essential part of the story. I'll never shop at Sainsbury's again after reading this book (English supermarket for overseas readers). Adam Nevill - you made the hairs on my arms stand up again and scared the crap out of me in the middle of the night. The Temple of the Last Days. The brutal cult with a history of murder, sex and occult dealings destroyed itself during one night of ritualistic violence decades ago. Or so they thought . . . The photographs will have to suffice. There cannot be any more delays. It's why I'm offering you the work. We're too far along now. It can only be done on this schedule bysomeone ... a director of your capability in such a situation. That going to be a deal-breaker?' He wondered whether he should just get up and leave. He couldn't even pretend he liked the man. And he'd be one of a dozen directors Max was currently feeling out for something tabloid. At least it wasn't over a lunch he was paying for; this was an actual production office. But he could already intuit he and Max were terminally different; if he couldn't trust his instincts after all he'd been through, then what else did he have to go on? Time to split.

Martin, Todd. "Book Review: Last Days – Author Adam Nevill". HorrorNews.net . Retrieved 4 October 2014. But then I don't know what happened. The last section of the book was not creepy or scary almost at all. Gory yes, but not scary as it had been. In fact it took on a rather militant tone with the introduction of one of the final characters in the cast. Let's just say the ending could have been a lot better. As Max came around the desk, hand outstretched, Kyle couldn't tell if the executive producer was impressed by their minimalism or pleased at the low cost implications. 'And they will agree to a confidentiality clause. I'm afraid this project must remain undercover until completion. The story remains contentious.' The smile vanished from Maximillian Solomon's eyes when he asked the question; a sign of self-seriousness, or a sudden scrutiny of Kyle's fitness for disclosure; something Kyle noticed about mind, body and spirit types who spoke about their interests with strangers. Ufologists and mediums were the same.

La primera es que me lo he pasado genial en el grupo de lectura, son personas increíbles que aman lo que yo amo, todos tienen ese buen gusto. At the point where I read the first of many disturbing scene I gasped, stopped and had to read the paragraph over and over again. Glee! Oh I knew that it was gong to be so good!

If the plot was that little bit tighter in the second half of this book it would have been absolutely fabulous.
