About this deal

Pero el libro no es una historia triste, sino que se ve desde el optimismo y la alegría de una niña que se siente amada y protegida, a salvo, pero que empieza a entender que no toda la gente es buena. In my opinion, “When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit” is more a book about emigration than about the Jews or WWII. In Switzerland, Anna is taught to yodel and the boys pelt her with pebbles. “It’s what they do here,” says her brother Max. “When they’re in love with anyone they throw things at them. Really Anna should feel honoured.” A few days later Anna sees Max in the village, throwing unripe apples at a girl. “Max was very adaptable,” she concludes. When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit is a story that gives hope and perfectly explains the most important bits of history of the Nazi time. The book can be read by young and old equally. In the end, I felt as if I was part of this little family who just wanted to live a normal life together somewhere without having to fear for their lives. The family does not even feel at home anywhere because their home was taken away from them and at the end they are still on the run but I like how even this horrible situation is turned into something positive by the father in the end: “We‘ll belong a little in lots of places, and I think that may be just as good.“ They always kept their chins up and eventually they got out of their situation even stronger than before and that is something I consider as the most important message of this novel.

Out of the Hitler Time is a trilogy of semi-autobiographical novels by Judith Kerr for children and young adults. Superb, sensitive, honest and compelling . . . a simple but terrifying tale of the destruction of a single Jewish family."-- The New York Times For Anna, no matter what happens in her life, nothing makes a difference as long as the whole family is together. The rest they would figure out. OVERCOMING DIFFICULTIESAnyway, we beat them,” said Gunther. “You should have seen those Nazis run! Max and I caught one of them and got his badge off him. But I don’t know what my Mum is going to say about my trousers.” He looked dolefully down at a large tear in the worn cloth. Gunther’s father was out of work and there was no money at home for new clothes.

When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit: A classic and unforgettable When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit: A classic and unforgettable

Even though I knew they got away I felt so nervous from the suspense. There was quite a bit of suspense at several points in this story. I was so anxious when they went to France (until I read the author bio blurb and saw the year they left for England) and so eager for them to get out of France and to England before the Nazi occupation. Even though I knew Anna and her family would get away and be safe I felt scared for them several times during their story. The descriptions are wonderful and I felt as though I was in the various settings and experiencing what the family members were experiencing. German, Switzerland, France and all that was going on in those places vividly came to life. The food, the customs, everything were vivid and evocative. We are used to read books about World War II and the events that led to it from the perspective of adults. In my case, all the books I have read about the Second World War have been written by grow-ups (last one being the beautiful “The Garden of Angels”).

Até há 5 dias, nem sabia que este livro existia. Até que "tropecei" nele na prateleira de destaques da biblioteca e... ainda bem! Morris Gleitzman brings heart and humour to the difficult subject of the Holocaust in this ground-breaking children's book. On the other hand, the author emphasizes the feeling of togetherness that the family is trying to maintain since they were forced to leave Germany. And this is, in my opinion, the most important topic of the novel. Judith was awarded an OBE for services to children’s literature and holocaust education in 2012, the Booktrust Lifetime Achievement Award in 2016, and named Illustrator of the Year at the British Book Awards in 2019. Judith died in 2019, and her stories continue to delight generations of children.

That the second world war was one of the most awful events of the 20th century I think it is mostly clear for everyone.

Retailers:

As a consequence of the situation in Germany, and fearing what will for sure come later, and even before Hitler and his party win the elections, her parents decided they should all leave the country.
