Climbing the Munros can be difficult. If we imagine a difficulty scale that goes from 1 to 5, with 1 being a walk in the park and 5 being an extremely challenging climb, most Munros will be somewhere at number 3.

Munro bagging is basically where an individual climbs each one of Scotland’s 282 Munros to their summit, with each completion called a ’round’ and the individual that made the achievement called a ‘compleationist’. Due to the immense geological activity caused by this fault line and also due to the deep scores that were carved through Scotland by glaciers in the last ice age, the Highland landscape is one of the most diverse on the planet. One extremely important thing for beginners is to choose a Munro that matches their abilities and which is within their comfort level. The pride of Loch Lomond & The Trossachs National Park, and Scotland's southernmost Munro, 3195ft (974m) Ben Lomond is even more popular than Ben Nevis, and it's only 40 miles northwest of Glasgow. Of course, altitude isn’t the only challenge for hikers; you also need to factor in the rough Highlands terrain and inclement weather.
