About this deal

LEGO, the LEGO logo, the Brick and Knob configurations, the Minifigure, DUPLO and LEGOLAND are trademarks of the LEGO Group. The tree appears very organic, except at the very top, where the 45-degree corner roof tiles look a bit out of place when compared to the pieces used for the rest of the tree.

These little trees are a typical sight in homes of those that celebrate the Lunar New Year, and I really love what LEGO have . We restrict the purchase limit available to a single household to ensure fairness for all of our fans. I like this tree, although I feel like the 'pumpkin mandarins' would perhaps have looked better when using 'BB-8 body spheres' in plain orange?Unless otherwise stated, all content not covered by The LEGO Group's copyright is © 2017-2024 iDisplayit. The colour red represents good fortune and prosperity, and is common across all Lunar New Year celebrations. Here’s a look at the printed coins, which represent ancient chinese coins, which have the signature square cutout in the middle. Contact Us LEGO, the LEGO logo, the Minifigure, and the Brick and Knob configurations are trademarks of the LEGO Group of Companies.

For context, the Cantonese word for Mandarin is “kam”, which is also a homonym for “gold”, which is why these little shrubs are used as decorations, and Mandarins are also gifted to one another as symbols of prosperity – hence the set’s name “Money Tree”. The inclusion of tangerines in 40648 Money Tree doesn’t appear to be a common occurrence across real money trees, but others say they are believed to bring good luck and happiness, with the Chinese word for tangerines closely resembling the words for luck and wealth. Whether given as a gift or bought as a treat to decorate the home, some sources believe that money trees bring good luck, money and fortune and they are usually decorated with red envelopes and coins, as seen in the set. The completed model stands about 17cm tall just about every frond is laden with either fruit, envelope or coin. Two gold yuanbao ingots in the shape of boats which, like the tree, are symbols of prosperity and wealth, sit upon the rim of the pot and complete the model. The eye-catching red planter’s use of curved pieces placed on their side allows for a simple but effective piece of detailing. With a small dedicated team of LEGO fans serving your needs, we're sure you wont find a better or more friendly service anywhere else online. Although this set isn’t an entry in that range, it could easily sit beside them or as a budget-friendly alternative to the likes of 10281 Bonsai Tree. I consider this a LEGO Botanical set, joining the likes of 10311 Orchid, and 10309 Succulents, as it’s really a brick-built shrub, with some decorations hanging from it. Like many of the annual LEGO Chinese New Year models before it, there’s cultural significance to 40648 Money Tree.

The individual fronds are securely fastened to the trunk, and the and hanging decorations are pinned to them using either carrot tops or espresso plates, so the whole structure is very robust. With so many exposed components, it is vital to preserve your LEGO brick centrepiece with a high-quality storage and display option. Here’s a look at the soil, which uses a combination of tiles and layered angled plates for some texture.

It’s a minor visual annoyance, but towards the top of the money tree, you can see these bricks, and the edges of the technic axle which hold the blue technic beam in the tree’s core in place.

Comparisons to the likes of the LEGO Botanical Collection may not seem fair, but 40648 Money Tree sits alongside them well and manages to hold its own.Recently, my family started a new, unconventional tradition: We turned to Lego to help set the scene.
