When it records sleep, it tells you when you were in light or deep sleep and your overall sleep period. The Apple Watch is a remarkable thing – a full wrist computer, complete with a gorgeous color display and a variety of connectivity and interaction methods. I think the smart features integrate well with the design, so unlike digital smart watches, you sort of ignore those aspects when they aren’t in use. First to announce was TAG Heuer, who promised a competing wrist computer, complete with Intel power and Android Wear software. Oddly, the font seems to be thinner than the “Bold” on the Smart Watch, likely being the Regular font.
The watch bezel is a clean affair, with a flat top and angular sides that remind me of a Grand Seiko more than anything out of Switzerland. If you haven’t filled your space for an essential silver timepiece, this one is definitely worth a look. Mondaine watches are a modern design classic that when paired with on-trend colours make the perfect iconic yet traditional time-piece. They match the hour markers and go well enough with the overall modern look of the watch, but they’re really nothing special to look at. Overall, it’s a very subtle smart watch, and much less flashy/garish than the TAG Heuer Carrera Connected with its glowing Android Wear display.
Note that sleep tracking requires manual toggling as well, a function I would have liked to have handled better. When you go to sleep, you push and hold the crown until it beeps, which tells the watch that you’re hitting the hay.Though they only teased the watch, it was striking in appearance, perhaps making more sense as a platform for this new technology. It features flat, plasticky hands and a modern, angular case and is dimensioned on the large side at 44 mm. This is recorded internally and transmitted on demand via Bluetooth to an app running on an iOS or Android smartphone. The case back is much larger and deeper on the smart watch than the original, adding a couple of millimeters in height to the watch. Just like the type font, Mondaine Helvetica is discreet, yet strong in the conviction of providing efficient time-keeping in a tempered recognizable form. The Bluetooth 4LE allows for a connection between the watch and the phone via the MMT-335 (Manufacture Movements Technologies) app - available on iOS and Android. In this taxonomy, the Mondaine Helvetica Smart is an activity band, not a true competitor to the Apple Watch or TAG Heuer Carrera Connected.
