About this deal

Since then he’d committed himself to staying off the radar while using his skills to help others who were just as powerless as he’d been as a young boy—pro bono missions he conducted as the Nowhere Man. But who knows if, like Michael Myers, the unstoppable Evan Smoak will delight fervent fans by coming back?

Base elements put through a rigorous process, distilled and filtered until the result was transformed into its purest essence. Additionally, he’s sold scripts to many of the major studios, and written, developed, and produced television for various networks. However, throughout the series, Evan has allowed people into his life and over time, he has allowed them to get to know him and it has irrevocably changed him and his life – and he’s ok with that (I think). Gregg Hurwitz has created the most exciting character in modern fiction: Evan Smoak, also known as Orphan X or The Nowhere Man. X is always X-ing, slightly OCD, may be allergic to patterns, and is always figuring out his next move. This is something that Evan agreed to stop doing in the last book when the President gave him a conditional pardon (a whole other story).

It's odd to me that it was this very relationship that I was annoyed by in my first, (but what was really the 7th), Orphan X book, that I now love the most. After a decade and change spent committing unsanctioned hits around the globe, Evan had gone AWOL from the Program and lost Jack all at once.the writing is crisp, the action scenes are both clever and cinematic, the dialogue is pitch perfect, and the villains are deliciously detestable. The author has developed Evan's character in every book and now it seems he is fearful of losing his edge. I loved the fact that Joey, Dog, and Orphan V were featured and have hope that a romance will brew between Orphan X and Orphan V (sorry to all the Evan and Mia fans out there! Evan reconnects briefly with ladylove Mia, enlists the help of Orphan V after a particularly brutal killing, and eventually gets around to avenging Johnny.

After he very nearly escapes the elaborate operation to capture him, he is eventually subdued with an industrial-strength sedative and transferred in maximum leg, arm and head restraints to the White House for a face-to-face meeting with the commander-in-chief. Smoak is lured into a meticulously laid trap, the jaws of which are a heavily-armed counter-assault team, air support, a fleet of tactical vehicles and more firepower than brought down Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid. As the Australians laughed and pleaded with him, Evan closed his eyes and sampled the specialty Reyka once more. For the most part, the pace is hectic as Evan strides through one dangerous situation after another. After solving a cold case killing at the Lobbyists mansion, he decides that the Lobbyist does not deserve to die but that all of his security details do, so he spends the rest of the book killing them one by one in increasingly gruesome ways. I have read all of the books in this series, and have enjoyed each of them, some a little more than others.
