About this deal

Hard water is completely harmless and doesn’t represent a deficiency in the quality of your water supply – however, it can cause problems within the home like: Himalayan salt may be the most well-known unrefined salt widely available. Unlike typical bright white refined salts, which have been bleached and have had most of their minerals removed, with extra iodine added in, unrefined salts like Himalayan salt retain more of their healthy minerals like magnesium and potassium, without any additives. Soft water is more corrosive to metal pipework, which could lead to water quality problems like discoloured water associated with iron pipework and would increase the risk of lead dissolving into the water from old lead pipes We’re guessing you’ve heard of salt and use it to cook with, but what about pink Himalayan salt? Have you heard of that?

Its special and highly attractive pink colour is down to trace minerals that are naturally present within the salt crystals. Interestingly, the finer the salt, the lighter shade of pink it is. Water supplied by Bristol Water meets required drinking water standards – however, the quality can be compromised by the condition of the standpipe. Where we have been informed the standpipe is to be used for domestic purposes, we will have arranged an inspection and chlorination of the standpipe and intended hydrant to be used before the standpipe is issued. This is an approved method to help ensure the quality of water is maintained for domestic purposes when using a standpipe. For domestic use, we will arrange a Network Inspector to visit, inspect and chlorinate the hydrant/washout to be used Flushing is essentially cleaning the water pipes. We carry out flushing when we've been working in the area to clear any pipework which may have been affected by the work. It's not unusual for you to have some discoloured water when this is happening. We advise that you run your downstairs cold tap for a few minutes which should clear it. Why do we flush? As for the trace minerals, Himalayan pink salt reportedly contains more than 80 minerals that aren’t found in regular salt. Over time, a natural sediment very similar to rust builds up in old, iron water mains and normally sits harmlessly in the bottom of pipes. However, if disturbed by increased flow (possibly due to a burst main) or flow reversal (to maintain supplies), this sediment can cause discolouration of supply. Although not harmful to health, the appearance of the water is impaired and may not be palatable. When eaten in moderation, Himalayan pink salt has minimal health implications and is associated with numerous health benefits, which we cover a bit further on down in this article.

Your inside stop tap can usually be found where the water enters the property. In a house, this is often under the kitchen sink or in a downstairs toilet. Sometimes work in your area or periods of inactive water use, such as holidays, can temporarily increase pressure. High-flow 64mm standpipes are restricted for use on designated filling points to avoid causing burst mains, poor pressures and water discolouration for other customers. If you develop a rash, swelling or other form of allergic reaction, stop using Himalayan salt and speak to your doctor. 6 You will be connecting to the public water supply system. It is your responsibility to prevent damage and avoid contamination. Failure to do so may render you liable to prosecution under the Water Industry Act 1991 regulations. Consider installing a domestic treatment device, like a water softener, water conditioner or scale inhibitor.

Not all our customers want their water supply softened – therefore, consumers can make their own choice to install domestic treatment. Meanwhile, children aged between 1 and 3 should eat no more than 2g a day; between 4 and 6 no more than 3g a day; between 7 and 10 no more than 5g a day and 11-years-old and over, no more than 6g a day. If you are unsure if you have a salt allergy, carry out a patch test on your skin before eating any. All of the water in our supply area is classed as either hard or very hard. Water hardness is a natural feature of the water supply in this area and does not indicate that there is a problem with the water quality. ChlorineThe amount of water pressure your home receives will vary depending on a wide range of factors. Some of these will be due to the way we supply your water and the distance it needs to travel, but other low pressure issues may be down to the way you use your water. Appliance use

If you don’t fancy bathing in Himalayan salt, you can always soak your feet in it, which can help relieve any discomfortafter a long and tiring day.Pink lakes are one of nature’s most eye-catching wonders, but the way that they form is surprisingly simple. Pink lakes in Australia, and around the world, have an extremely high salt content. When the salt in the water interacts with green algae in the lake, a vibrant pink tinge develops. The color also changes throughout the day, depending on the light outside and conditions in the water, creating beautiful visual effects that will stun visitors. The more properties that are fed off your water supply pipe, the lower the pressure will be. Distance
